The Chiefs and Eagles produced one of the greatest Super Bowl games in recent history, and this mind-boggling stat proves it.

Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles left viewers with a plethora of questions: What constitutes a catch in the NFL? Why can no one stop the Eagles’ quarterback sneak? Was that defensive holding?

There’s one other rhetorical question that fans can also ask themselves: Are you not entertained?

The all-out gladiator battle between Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Eagles’ Jalen Hurts was unlike anything we’ve seen before this season and in the last few decades. The Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship last year comes close, but that was marred by the overtime controversy that saw Kansas City win the first possession and, subsequently, the game.

Compared to the Chiefs-Bills matchup, which could be considered more of an offensive shootout, this Super Bowl represented a tense dogfight between two very complete teams. Kansas City’s defense shined with a second quarter scoop-and-score, and Philadelphia’s defense also came out to play to limit the Chiefs to 187 yards in the air.

As for the offense, behind each franchise stood a uniquely special quarterback who each left everything out on the field. In 2022, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts earned two of the highest QB ratings in a Super Bowl since 2006, according to Pro Football Focus.

Chiefs and Eagles each crushed it in the quarterback department in Super Bowl LVII

Hurts comes in at a 92.2 rating, just 0.1 shy of Nick Foles’ rating in his 2017 unreal performance against the New England Patriots. Mahomes ranks slightly lower at 89.5, below the likes of Aaron Rodgers in 2010 (91.6) and Eli Manning in 2011 (91.5).

Like many other high-stakes playoff games, Super Bowl LVII carried its own heavy burden of controversy with the end-of-game defensive holding call, leaving many wondering what could have been if the Eagles got the ball back with less than two minutes remaining.

From a football purist’s standpoint, though, this Super Bowl will go down in history as one of the most thrilling games ever conceived whether it was scripted or not. Jalen Hurts’ monstrous three rushing touchdown and 300-plus passing yard performance could not be eclipsed, yet even a limping Mahomes left his indelible mark on the game with his signature magic touch, dancing around frustrated Eagles defenders and making pinpoint passes down the field.

Luckily for fans of the game (including Eagles fans who are craving revenge), they may only have to wait another year to witness a spectacle like this again.
