It’s time for the Genesis Invitational and we’re breaking down our DraftKings golf picks with the best plays and fades to build a winning PGA DFS lineup.

Tiger Woods, the second straight elevated event, an iconic venue at Riviera Country Club — the 2023 Genesis Invitational is going to have it all. 23 of the 25 top-ranked players in the world are at the field in addition to Woods teeing it up for the first time since 2020 in a PGA Tour event. But what do we do with our DraftKings golf picks with this loaded PGA DFS slate?

Last week at another elevated event, the WM Phoenix Open, our DraftKings golf picks went pretty well. While Chris Kirk let down our lineup, it still accrued 452.50 points in PGA DFS contests, which is good enough to cash somewhat in just about every tournament. Now we’re running it back with a lot of the same players, but a different type of course at Riviera. So our Genesis Invitational DraftKings picks will have to be locked in.

Luckily, that’s exactly how we’re feeling. So let’s go through the top plays and top fades from each pricing range. Then, we’ll use that information to build a winning PGA DFS lineup with further explanation if needed. Time to dive into the slate.

DraftKings picks for Genesis Invitational PGA DFS lineups: Top Plays

$10,000: Justin Thomas ($10,100) – Anyone who ready my picks and best bets for the week at the Genesis should’ve known this was coming. JT is my pick to win this week. After struggling on approach recently, he found the rest of his ball-striking last week and that’s the DNA we need for him to win at a place where he’s played well previously on top of that. Him being at the bottom of the $10K range only makes that a sweeter proposition. Also Consider: Jon Rahm ($11,100), Rory McIlroy ($10,500)

$9,000: Tony Finau ($9,500) – I faded Finau last week and he finished T14 at a place where he’s struggled over the years. I love him exponentially more at Riviera, though. He has two second-place finishes at the Genesis in his last five starts and hasn’t finished worse than T16 in any of his last six overall starts this season. He’s gaining 1.05 strokes per round on approach over his last 24, which is the type of DNA needed to win this week. Also Consider: Xander Schauffele ($9,900), Max Homa ($9,700), Collin Morikawa ($9,300)

$8,000: Viktor Hovland ($8,900) – Full disclosure, I’m definitely relying on my gut and course history in hitching my wagon to Hovland this week. The Norwegian hasn’t been as elite as he often is with his ball-striking of late and he finished outside of the Top 40 last week. Riviera suits his game extremely well, though, which is evidenced by Top 5 finishes in each of the past two years. I think we could see another, especially now that he’s not been bleeding strokes around the green quite as badly. Also Consider: Will Zaltoris ($8,700), Jason Day ($8,400), Matt Fitzpatrick ($8,300), Tyrrell Hatton ($8,100), Adam Scott ($8,000)

$7,000: Wyndham Clark ($7,800) – Because he’s not a big name, you might not have noticed Wyndham Clark definitely trending as of late but he is. And now the long-hitter off the tee comes in off a T10 at the WM Phoenix Open to a place where he has two Top 20 finishes in the last three years. He’s really polished up the weaker parts of his game and I love his fit at Riviera this week. Also Consider: Rickie Fowler ($7,900), Keegan Bradley ($7,700), Keith Mitchell ($7,500), Alex Noren ($7,300), Taylor Moore ($7,200), Patrick Rodgers ($7,000)

$6,000: James Hahn ($6,700) – Coming off a T32 finish last week, his best since the calendar flipped to 2023, Hahn is interesting at this spot. Despite his poor finishes overall lately, he’s striking the ball extremely well and has a nice history at the Genesis, making four straight cuts at Riviera and finishing Top 15 on three occasions. If you dip into the $6K range, I love his value in this spot. Also Consider: Adrian Meronk ($6,900), Davis Thompson ($6,700), Ben Taylor ($6,400)

DraftKings golf picks for Genesis Invitational PGA DFS lineups: Top Fades

$10,000: Scottie Scheffler ($10,700) – I’m not going to lie to you and say that I have strong convictions about not playing Scottie Scheffler this week, only that he’s my least favorite play in the $10K range, even after winning last week. But really, if you want to play Scheffler and like him over the other three guys in this range, I wouldn’t fault you in the slightest.

$9,000: Sam Burns ($9,100) – Back to this well again, it’s hard to like what Sam Burns has been showing us recently. Yes, he did finish T6 last week, which I get. But the truth of the matter is that his approach play has been losing strokes in his last 24 rounds. I think that limits his upside at this event in a $9K range that is loaded in that regard. I’d much prefer anyone in the range over him.

$8,000: Tom Kim ($8,500) – While I was on Kim last week, he not only didn’t deliver a good finish, but he is now going to a place where he should be at a disadvantage with his lack of length. Yes, we’ve said that before and he’s finished well. However, with these narrow fairways, everyone is going to be playing from the rough. It’s extremely tough to compete in a field like this when you’re going to be that much further back, which is why Kim is the fade in the $8K range.

$7,000: Tiger Woods ($7,300) – I’m as excited to see Tiger Woods play on the PGA Tour again as anyone — my expectations just aren’t high. He’s already said that his ankle and plantar fasciitis have been bothering him a bit and he hasn’t played since St. Andrews in summer of 2022. I don’t see that translating to much success, even given his history with Riviera. And if he proves me wrong, I’ll be happy to see that play out.

Genesis Invitational: Best DraftKings golf lineup

  • Justin Thomas ($10,100)
  • Tony Finau ($9,500)
  • Viktor Hovland ($8,900)
  • Wyndham Clark ($7,800)
  • Adrian Meronk ($6,900)
  • James Hahn ($6,700)

Definitely a stars and scrubs build here, but it’s refreshing to get our four top plays in here and then go down to the $6K range and still get another top play in the mix.

The outlier that we haven’t mentioned here is Adrian Meronk but he’s been striking the heck out of the ball on the DP World Tour and the finishes back that up greatly. He’s finished in the Top 10 in three of his last four starts, including a win in Australia. While the strength of field is significantly increased this week, I’m willing to take a gamble on his recent form.
