4. The Seahawks want Geno back, but is a Justin Fields trade the better option?

Speaking of teams that already appear to have their plan moving forward at quarterback, the Seattle Seahawks actually find themselves in that unlikely position following the 2022 season. After trading Russell Wilson, it was assumed that Geno Smith (or even Drew Lock as there was a position battle entering the year) would be a stopgap before finding another answer.

Instead, Smith performed wonderfully as the starter and actually led the Seahawks to the playoffs. Now, the franchise seems keen on re-signing or placing the franchise tag on Smith to bring him back to Seattle.

With that said, a Justin Fields trade being on the table could change the calculus. And the Wilson trade has the Seahawks in a position to offer a trade package that could rival just about anything any other team could give Chicago.

Seattle is in a unique position where they could trade a first- and second-round pick this year and still have selections in both rounds. Meanwhile, they basically swap their third-rounder for the Bears’ fourth-rounder while giving up their second next season.

With Fields, the future and upside is much stronger than it would be with Smith, even after how good he was this past season. On the other side of the coin, the Bears would then have two Top 5 picks in the draft, would recoup a second-rounder, and would be set up tremendously to reshape a barren roster.
