Creighton and St. John’s meet on Saturday night with the Bluejays coming off a heartbreaking double overtime road loss to Providence. Meanwhile, last time we saw the Red Storm, they beat that same Providence team at Madison Square Garden.

The Bluejays have emerged as one of the elite teams in the conference behind their stifling defense and balanced offense, and they had little issue handling St. John’s press defense, scoring over 100 points in the team’s 28 point home win.

Is there another blowout on the way on Saturday night? Here are the odds:

Creighton vs. St. John’s prediction and pick

While Posh Alexander didn’t play in the first meeting, one of the key cogs to St. John’s press defense, I struggle to see how the pace doesn’t lead to an over between these two teams.

Creighton had little issue handling the Red Storm’s press defense, shooting nearly 57% from the field and only turned it over on six possessions en route to a 104-point performance. St. John’s press defense leads to a ton of possessions and Creighton’s ability to have four ball handlers on the floor around Ryan Kalkbrenner leads to a lot of easy looks at the rim.

However, Creighton still allowed 74 points in the blowout win. The Red Storm’s frenetic pace gives them plenty of looks as well and we have seen Creighton struggle a bit on the road, the team is 311th in away from home rating, meaning the team has a stark drop off in performance on the road.

It’s also worth noting that the Bluejays play an incredibly short bench and had a double overtime affair against Providence earlier this week. Each starter played 45 minutes or more in that one and there can be some tired legs in a track meet, leading to holes in the typically stout Creighton defense.

I’ll go with the over yet again between these two.
