Michigan reveals decked-out necklace for players after beating Ohio State again

It’s not as cool as gold pants, but Michigan has decided to start its own tradition of awarding players with prizes after beating their hated rivals, Ohio State.
After a 45-23 win against Ohio State in “The Game” last November, Michigan handed out some shiny bling to its players as an incentive to keep beating up the Buckeyes.
Back in 1934, Ohio State started a tradition of giving players a gold pants charm whenever the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines. Several decades later, UM finally have their own “thing” to rub their wins in OSU’s faces, and the intricate details are pretty awesome.
The Wolverines revealed pictures of the “The Game” necklace on Twitter: the front of the necklace depicts a crossed sword and shovel along with the date of when the victory took place. On the back, the slogan “What’s Our Name?” is written above “Michigan” and has the Horseshoe engraved with the winning score in the center.
Michigan rewards players with bejeweled necklaces for beating Ohio State
Michigan’s design team really went all out on this one. When the Wolverines beat Ohio State in 2021, the players also received a congratulatory necklace. OSU hasn’t beaten Michigan since 2019, so the gold pants may not be coming out for a while.
The Wolverines’ decked-out bling serves as a cool gift to the players for sure, and it also could represent a symbol of the team’s goal to “build” and “attack” toward another Big Ten Championship.
After losing to Ohio State five straight times starting in 2015, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh earned his first two wins in 2021 and 2022, and victory tastes sweet indeed.
Necklaces and gold pants are the mere trinkets and spoils of victory, but they mark one of the the greatest college rivalries of all time and lets each player take home a piece of the pie, as opposed to honoring the winners with a team trophy.
Until the next game.
