UFC Vegas 69: Who is Clayton Carpenter?
Who is Clayton Carpenter?
Clayton Carpenter is an undefeated fighter out of the MMA Lab in Glendale, AZ looking to make a splash in the flyweight division. Carpenter was awarded a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series after a hard-fought bout with Edgar Chairez last season. Carpenter was critical of his performance but believes in himself enough to make an impact in the UFC.
Carpenter was 6-1 as an amateur from 2015 to 2018 before making the jump to pro in 2019. Carpenter joined the LFA in 2020 and went 3-0 before getting a call to appear on DWCS. Carpenter was well-known for a viral head-kick knockout against Rodney Kealohi just 13 seconds into their fight at LFA 119. Carpenter went on to beat Chairez by unanimous decision and six months later is making his UFC debut.
Clayton Carpenter makes his UFC debut against Juancamilo Ronderos at UFC Vegas 69
Carpenter makes his debut against Xtreme Couture’s Juancamilo Ronderos, who is 0-1 in the UFC. Ronderos went undefeated as an amateur and was 4-0 as a pro, winning the flyweight championship in the smaller promotion WXC. Ronderos was called up on short notice to face ranked flyweight David Dvorak at UFC Vegas 27 and lost by first-round submission nearly two years ago.
Carpenter and Ronderos don’t have much experience, with only 11 pro fights combined, but have seven combined finishes in those fights. As of now, Carpenter will be kicking off the prelims, with a chance to show people he can be better than his last fight.
