What the L.A Clippers rotation will look like with Russell Westbrook
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the L.A. Clippers have signed Russell Westbrook after him getting a buyout from the Utah Jazz.
It seems that Clippers’ management caved to Paul George and Marcus Morris wanting Russell Westbrook on the squad. The Clippers have been missing a true point guard distributor from what seems their entire George/Leonard run.
But what does the rotation look like with Russell Westbrook in the lineup? How many minutes will Westbrook play in Lue’s rotation?
With the signing of Westbrook, they don’t really gain an A or even B+/B distributor, but they do gain another guard who will fill a hole for the Clippers roster.
What will Russell Westbrook’s role on this roster be?
Russell Westbrook will be coming off the bench for this Clippers team. He will not start over Bones Hyland or Terance Mann (if they choose to go with a less traditional guard at the one). He will play substantial minutes off the bench.
The former All-Star will play around 20-to-22 minutes for the Clippers. L.A. has a number of new additions to their roster who are trying to settle in. They added Eric Gordon, Bones Hyland, and Miles Plumlee to this roster.
If Westbrook is still able to provide some playmaking, he will have a consistent role on this team. If not, he will not last long in the rotation because the Clippers have plenty of wings to move around.
What does the Russell Westbrook addition do for the Clippers?
The former MVP is a bit of an upgrade from John Wall, but really doesn’t signify a big move. A move at the trade deadline for a better distributor would have improved their shot selection and chance of winning a title this season.
Adding Westbrook is like putting a bandaid on their point guard issues. It doesn’t really do anything except cover the issue up.
