Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury preview & prediction
The score will finally be settled as Jake Paul goes up against Tommy Fury live from the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
Fight week is upon us, and the Jake Paul show is rolling into town to own the internet. This time, the fight is abroad at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Since the fight is in the UAE, it’ll be a Sunday special instead of Saturday night. Paul will face Tommy Fury in a fight that has been in the making for quite some time. This is the third attempt at getting these two fighters in the ring, and let’s hope that this time we hear the sound of the bell to start the fight with both men staring at each other from across the ring.
Paul is coming into this one as the favorite, and rightfully so. He has been more active, and although his level of competition has been a lot older, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that he defeated them, whether by knockout or a decision. In October, Paul battled MMA legend Anderson Silva to an eight-round decision victory. In that fight, Paul really needed to think in there and quickly found out that it wouldn’t be a highlight reel knockout against a guy like Silva, so he put combinations together and displayed some skills. He scored a knockdown in the fight, but nothing heavily damaged Silva. The lesson learned here was that every fight isn’t going to be easy, and when stepping up the level of competition, it will take a ton of work to get a knockout.
In this fight against Fury, Paul must use his experience to overwhelm the young Brit. Although Fury has a chiseled physique that has earned him some reality tv notoriety, Paul needs to work his body early and hard in order to zap the oxygen out of Fury. It won’t take long until the hands drop, allowing Paul to execute something upstairs like that big right hand.
Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury will stream live on ESPN+ PPV ($49.99)
If you look at Fury, you would think he is a model for some major fashion company. He has the looks and the body to model but isn’t as sharp in the ring. Aside from that, he is the step-brother to the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. In his last fight against Daniel Bocianski in April, Fury didn’t do anything special but did secure the decision victory. In some exchanges throughout the fight, he looked awkward and unsure of himself but did enough to secure the win. Their father, John, was in attendance for Fury’s last fight and proceeded to take his shirt off and exchange pleasantries with Paul, who was ringside. Fury is way over his head, even if Paul hasn’t had many fights. Fury’s victories have mostly come from opponents with no victories on their record, and he hasn’t shared the ring with anyone credible, even if they were past their prime like Paul has.
Fury needs to get Paul’s respect early and hit him with something that is going to make Paul think twice. I don’t know if Fury possesses that type of power, but if he does, he will have to establish his dominance early in the fight. If Fury needs to rely solely on boxing skills, then he needs to be able to establish the left jab, circle to Paul’s right as much as possible, and prevent him from getting into a rhythm.
Although this fight is only eight rounds, Paul will show that their skills are on two different levels. Paul will pressure Fury early and force him into a fight. This is where Fury will make mistakes and open himself up when he doesn’t have to.
Prediction: Jake Paul via seventh-round TKO.
