Ranking the Jets quarterback options for 2023 from worst to best
2. Jets’ quarterback options – Derek Carr
The Jets have already started to do their homework on Carr, who visited the team over the weekend. That visit went very well as both sides were impressed with each other but Carr left without a contract as he is committed to exploring all potential options for a new home.
There are questions about how Carr would fit in New York’s pressure cooker, especially after the Raiders sent him home after benching him at the end of the season. There is no question, however, that Carr’s floor is significantly higher than the quarterback play the Jets’ organization has received in the past four decades.
New York would also offer Carr tremendous help in the form of the best defense he has ever had along with capable weapons on the outside. Carr nearly won an NFL MVP with the Raiders in 2016 and guided a dysfunctional franchise to the playoffs in 2021, so it makes sense why the Jets feel that he has championship upside.
Signing Carr would only cost the Jets money, allowing them to retain their draft capital to build up the roster around him. Of all the potential free agents (we’re not counting Lamar Jackson, who is likely to get the franchise tag from Baltimore), Carr makes the most sense.
