Michael Soroka isn’t the only starting pitcher on the Atlanta Braves that is dealing with an injury in spring training.

The Atlanta Braves are looking to make a return to the World Series for the second time in three years, but have to contend with a much tougher NL East, especially against the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. When it comes to starting pitching, Atlanta watched as Michael Soroka dealt with numerous injuries in recent years, most notably tearing his Achilles tendon twice. But now, he’s dealing with a right hamstring strain that is preventing him from taking part in spring training.

As it turns out, the Braves are dealing with yet another injury to one of their starting pitchers.

Kyle Wright won’t be ready for the start of spring training as he bounces back from receiving a cortisone shot in his right shoulder. But, the expectation is that Wright will be ready to go for the start of the 2023 regular season.

Atlanta Braves news: Kyle Wright to miss start of Braves spring training

Back in January, Wright ended his preparations for spring training to receive the aforementioned cortisone shot. As MLB.com’s Mark Bowman writes in the article linked above, the Braves are unlikely to use him much in spring training to get him ready for the regular season. The good news is that Wright’s shoulder is feeling good after the cortisone injection.

Wright is entering his seventh season with Atlanta. Last season was arguably the best of Wright’s career. He pitched to a career-high 21 wins, while recording a 3.19 ERA, a 1.159 WHIP, 174 strikeouts, and 53 walks over 180.1 innings (30 starts). Wright finished 10th in NL Cy Young voting.

From the sound of it, there is optimism that Wright could be ready to go for the start of the 2023 season. That will obviously be worth monitoring throughout spring training. Remember, the Braves officially start their season on March 30 against the Washington Nationals.
