Jets are already setting Derek Carr up for failure in New York

The New York Jets are in desperate need of a quarterback, and they had quite the selling point to free agent Derek Carr during their meetings.
Had the New York Jets had a competent starting quarterback on their roster in 2022, there was a high chance that they would have made the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 campaign. Instead, they finished the year with a 7-10 record, losing their final six games.
The Zach Wilson experiment has seemingly come to an end — though with a cracked door — as the organization is looking for a veteran quarterback to help their team make it into the postseason. One of the quarterbacks they are pursuing is former Las Vegas Raider Derek Carr, who they hosted for a visit this past weekend.
As it turns out, they have a high opinion of Carr, and let him know about it.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Jets told Carr during his visit that if he were to come to New York to play for them and win, he could “be a first ballot Hall of Famer.”
Jets believe Derek Carr could be first ballot Hall of Famer if he signs with them
That is quite a selling point from the Jets to try and get Carr to join them.
The Jets, on paper, have a stacked roster of young talent, especially on defense. Not to mention that general manager Joe Douglas has been praised for his ability to draft. Look no further than the 2022 Jets’ draft class, which saw first-round picks in wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner win Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, respectively.
While Carr is high on the Jets’ list, they are also keeping tabs on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Even though the NFL world awaits for him to emerge from his “darkness retreat.” Once he does, it’s unknown if he will make an immediate announcement as to whether he wants to stay with the Packers, play with another team, or retire.
Carr isn’t expected to make an immediate decision, as his older brother and former Houston Texans first-overall pick David said on NFL Network earlier this week that his free agency will be a “long process.” If Rodgers were to go off the board, Carr would be the next-best quarterback available this offseason. In that case, he could cash in on a huge contract.
The Jets need to get the quarterback position right this offseason. While meeting with Carr this past weekend, the Jets let him know that they believe he can head to Canton, Ohio on his first year of Hall of Fame eligibility if he were to join and win with them. While that’s quite the sell, it also increases the pressure for Carr if he does choose to play for the Jets.
