Netflix announced a new show with mic’d up and behind-the-scenes access to three quarterbacks that will debut this summer.
Netflix announced a brand new show that will debut this summer that should be a favorite for NFL fans during the dark days of summer while waiting for games to kick back up. It’s a documentary with three players mic’d up for every game of the 2022 season and behind-the-scenes footage. It focuses on three quarterbacks and is aptly titled Quarterback.
The subjects are…
Patrick Mahomes…
Kirk Cousins…
And…
Wait for it!
Marcus Mariota.
Yep, two multi-year Pro Bowlers, one of which is a two-time Super Bowl MVP and champion, and a quarterback who casual fans might not even remember is still in the NFL.

Netflix documentary should be a great watch, and humanizing for Marcus Mariota
I kid, and my presentation on Mariota is entirely unfair. But him being lumped in with Mahomes and Cousins is entirely unfair to him as a player that garners such little interest compared to the other two.
Mariota, afer winning a Heisman Trophy with Oregon in his college days, has not done much notable since he was drafted in 2015. He started for the Titans, went to the Raiders as a backup, and then regained a starting role with the Atlanta Falcons last season.
He threw for 15 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in his year with Atlanta, with a 5-8 record on the year as a starter.
While fans might be tempted to scrub right past the Mariota scenes in the documentary, don’t! His inclusion should add a layer of dynamism to the show. Rather than focusing on just the winning quarterbacks, the stories of Mahomes and Cousins will be juxtaposed with a slightly different journey with different challenges that Mariota was facing in 2022 trying to claw his way back into a starting tier.
It’s so easy to forget the very human experiences and emotions professional athletes go through, and if one had to guess, you’d think that would be on display for Mariota even more than Mahomes or Cousins.
Maybe we’ll all be rooting for Marcus Mariota by the time this thing hits streaming.
