Don’t get baited into betting Anthony Richardson as No. 1 draft pick
By Peter Dewey
Don’t look now, but the Anthony Richardson hype train may already be full.
Richardson, the star quarterback for the University of Florida, is among the top four quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft class, and his odds to the No. 1 pick have skyrocketed in recent days.
While the Richardson hype is changing the betting market, he may not be a wise choice to bet on after seeing his odds slashed from +4000 to +700 in less than a week.
As it currently stands, Bryce Young is still the odds on favorite to be the No. 1 pick, a selection that we aren’t even sure which team will be making, since the Chicago Bears seem poised to trade the No. 1 pick.
Here’s a look at the latest odds:

Anthony Richardson odds to be No. 1 draft pick
People may love Richardson as a prospect, but he seems to be the biggest project between himself, Young, CJ Stroud and Will Levis in this upcoming draft. Would a team really move up to No. 1 to take a quarterback it may not be able to play right away?
Richardson has a unique skillset and athleticism, but from the jump this has been a Young vs. Stroud battle for the No. 1 spot.
At this point for bettors, you’ve already missed the best price on Richardson in the market, don’t try to buy in now when the value simply isn’t there.
This entire market could change if the Bears keep the No. 1 pick or if they move it to a team to who declares who they want at quarterback.
So far, there is no definitive team that has revealed that Richardson is their top choice in this class.
It may feel like a value since he’s +700, but the move from +4000 to +700 is extremely significant, and you don’t want to buy on a stock that may just be smoke and mirrors at this point in the draft process.
