The best Michigan Man: Jim Harbaugh helps police officer move a tree off the road (Video)
Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh was a good samaritan for the police in Ann Arbor helping to move a fallen tree during this week’s ice storm.
Whether they like it or not, head coaches are role models for their community. Jim Harbaugh just provided a great example of how to be a good one.
On Wednesday night with Ann Arbor dealing with an ice storm, Harbaugh came to the aid of a police officer who was trying to deal with a large fallen tree in the middle of the road.
Body cam footage showed Harbaugh assisting the offer to clear a lane of traffic by lifting and pushing the tree little by little. After that the head coach helped clear away smaller branches blocking the road.

The Ann Arbor Police released the video of Harbaugh’s good deed along with several tweets explaining how everything went down.
“On 2/22/23 at approximately 8pm in the middle of the ice storm Ofc Howard Cooper was at Devonshire and Londonderry to remove a large tree that was blocking the road when a van pulled up. The driver then parked and got out of the vehicle,” the department’s official account tweeted.
“To the surprise of Ofc Cooper, the good Samaritan was @CoachJim4UM who wanted to help clear the road. Ofc Cooper then gave Coach a pair of work gloves and the two of them went to work.
“After about ten minutes they were able to, inch by inch, get the entire tree moved to clear a lane for traffic to pass through. We thank Coach Harbaugh for being a valued member of the Ann Arbor community and helping out Ofc Cooper.”
On the video, the officer could be heard calling Harbaugh “a good man.”
“Feel free to spread the word on that,” Harbaugh joked back.
When it’s easy to get caught up in all the bad behavior in sports, having such a high-profile figure do even a small act of good is definitely worth spreading.
