1 trade the Cincinnati Reds want to take back: Frank Robinson

If you’re the oldest franchise in baseball, you’re bound to get a trade or two wrong over the years. But the Cincinnati Reds’ biggest blunder came prior to the 1966 season when fresh off his sixth All-Star appearance, Frank Robinson was traded to the Baltimore Orioles.

In exchange, the Reds received Milt Pappas, Jack Baldschun, and Dick Simpson. But that wasn’t the worst part of this trade. In 1966, in his very year with the Orioles, Robinson won the triple crown, led the league in home runs and RBIs and helped the O’s to win the World Series.

Robinson would go on post six more All-Star campaigns, five of which were with the Orioles. Robinson finished his Hall of Fame career in 1976 with 586 total home runs and 1,812 runs batted in.

Frank Robinson is a legend in the game of baseball, and many consider him to be one of the Top 20 players of all time. Why the Cincinnati Reds traded Robinson away, we’ll never understand. The Reds also traded away Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson before his career even got going. Yikes!
