When Alabama star Brandon Miller was introduced on Saturday for the Arkansas game, his routine was completely tone-deaf amid the ongoing controversy.

On Saturday afternoon, the No. 2-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide hosted Arkansas. Projected lottery pick Brandon Miller was once again in the lineup despite a revelation this week that Miller brought former teammate Darius Miles the latter’s gun that was used in the alleged murder of 23-year-old mother Jamea Harris.

Head coach Nate Oats and the Alabama athletics department have been under heavy criticism for not suspending or seemingly disciplining Miller, even if all indications state he won’t be charged with a crime. Oats’ comments on the matter have also drawn intense scrutiny.

In spite of all of this, as Miller was taking part in the player introductions on Saturday, he and a walk-on teammate for the Crimson Tide appeared to mimic a police pat-down search after he walked out of the tunnel of players and coaches.

This is inexplicably tone-deaf and insensitive from Miller and the Alabama basketball team.

Regardless of if you believe that Miller should or should not be suspended from the program in the wake of his association with the alleged crime — even if he seemingly will not be charged with anything — a woman lost her life. And this player intro appears to show blatant disregard for the severity of the situation as a whole. Given all of the criticism that Oats and the university are under as well for their comments on the matter, this only makes it look worse.

Alabama went on to win the game against Arkansas, 86-83. Miller led the Crimson Tide with 24 points.

The talking point after the game, though, will be Miller’s introduction and how, after a series of missteps from the basketball team regarding this matter, the standout freshman and his teammate committed another one.
