It looks like Manny Machado won’t be leaving San Diego for a very long time.

According to Jeff Passan, the Padres have put together a deal to keep him happy for the next 11 years.

“Star third baseman Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN,” he tweeted early Sunday morning. “Machado helped turn around the franchise. He’ll stay as the ascendant Padres seek their first championship.”

Machado just recently became the first MLB player to violate the new controversial pitch clock timer and he spoke about the moment afterward.

“That time came by quick,” Machado said after the game (h/t ESPN) “It’s definitely something we’re going to have to get used to. It kind of takes away your routine, being up there and zoning in before the pitch. The umpire gave me a little warning — ‘Hey, you got 2 seconds’ — but I was already late when I got in there.”

Previously, Machado had made it clear that he planned to opt out of the remaining five years, $150 million of his contract and some wondered if he’d shop himself around to other teams.
