Michigan Bracketology predictions: Wolverines trending but still outside March Madness field

Michigan fans are anxiously awaiting the fate of the Wolverines while much of the country who hasn’t been keeping eyes on Ann Arbor is probably wondering why a 17-12 overall team is even considered a contender to make the NCAA Tournament.

The fact of the matter, though, is that Juwan Howard’s team boasts the 25th toughest schedule in the country and is coming on strong down the stretch. On Sunday, they avoided a disastrous loss at home to Wisconsin thanks to some Hunter Dickinson heroics to force overtime, where Michigan prevailed in the 87-79 contest.

Michigan is now on a three-game winning streak with two more opportunities to gain some more traction with the selection committee prior to the Big Ten Tournament as they face Illinois on the road and then finish the season on Sunday, March 5 in Bloomington as they face No. 15-ranked Indiana, fresh off upsetting Purdue over the weekend.

Jerry Palm has the Wolverines as one of the First Four Out as of Monday while Joe Lunardi’s Feb. 24 projections had the team as part of the Next Four Out, though the win on Sunday could prop them up a bit more. There is still work to do, but Michigan is moving in the right direction and has opportunities to continue that trend.
