58. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Washington Commanders. 16. player. NFC. East

Anthony Richardson could be the face of the new-look Washington Commanders

At this point, Richardson may be coming off the board before the Washington Commanders are picking at No. 16. Is he worth trading up for, though? Well, do the Commanders want to command our attention or not? Either way, they are moving on from Carson Wentz. Taylor Heinicke can be fun at times, but Sam Howell may be too much of a nervous bird to carry a woebegone franchise.

With the franchise’s ownership stuck in a perpetual state of flux, it remains to be seen if Ron Rivera will get to lead the franchise beyond the Daniel Snyder era. He may be a defensive-minded head coach, but he did coach, you guessed it? Cam Newton! Plus, he has hired Patrick Mahomes’ former offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy. Mahomes was also raw coming out of Texas Tech.

Given that the NFC East as a whole does not have what we would call blue-chip prospects abound at starting quarterback positions, Washington can afford to take a chance on a prospect like Richardson. The division is not down bad like the NFC South, but they are not hopelessly behind the eight ball like the Silver and Black are to AFC West foes at quarterback. Richardson is worth it.

This is about as far as Richardson could conceivably fall in the latest NFL mock draft projections.
