NFL Draft: 10 best running backs available in 2023
By KC Proctor
2. Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama
Much like Zach Evans — except lightyears better — Jahmyr Gibbs transferred into the SEC ahead of his junior season. Formerly a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, Gibbs moved on to Alabama for his final year of collegiate competition and cemented his legitimacy as one of the most dynamic players in the 2023 draft class.
He boasted an elite 6.1 yards-per-carry at Alabama and racked up seven rushing touchdowns, giving away zero fumbles in 2022. The cherry on top of his pitstop in Tuscaloosa came in the form of 44 receptions for 444 yards and 3 additional receiving TDs.
The role that Gibbs played in Nick Saban’s offense drew out Alvin Kamara comparisons among draft experts, which is extremely high praise. Putting such high expectations on prospects rarely results in success being met, let alone exceeded, but nonetheless, Gibbs will be entering the NFL with a high floor.
Just like Abanikanda, if it weren’t for somebody really special ahead of him, Jahmyr Gibbs would have a great shot at coming out of the draft as RB1.
