NFL mock draft: New York Giants draft their first dominant receiver since OBJ

Andrei Iosivas officially recorded a 4.43 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. You know who else recorded a 4.43? Odell Beckham Jr.

For the past decade, the New York Giants franchise has been starving for a dominant No. 1 receiver. Only OBJ was able to fill in that role from 2014 to 2018, and as nice as it would be to see the former first-round pick reunite with the team that drafted him, the Giants need fresh meat at the position.

2022 second-rounder Wan’Dale Robinson made a few memorable contributions. Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard are set to be free agents and could be lured away from New York.

Brian Daboll is building something great in New York, that much can be ascertained after the Giants exceeded expectations in Daboll’s first year as head coach. Assuming the Giants opt to franchise tag Daniel Jones in 2023, the team will need to see drastic improvements from its passing attack to compete in the crowded NFC East.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen actually had his eye on Andrei Iosivas since the team tried to recruit OBJ late last season — it was OBJ’s agent, Zeke Sandhu, who actually showed Schoen a YouTube clip of Iosivas months ago.

Keeping Daniel Jones in New York is one thing, but giving Jones elite outside targets is the second, much-needed part of the passing game equation. Iosivas checks all the boxes, has a bit of acrobatic OBJ-esque potential himself, and should be high on the Giants’ list heading into the draft.
