2) The Yankees will regret not adding another lefty to the bullpen

The Yankees bullpen looks good with one exception. Wandy Peralta is their only left-handed pitcher. While not a must to have more, a more balanced bullpen is something Cashman ignored this offseason.

The only other lefty pitcher on the 40-man roster we could expect to have some relief innings is Matt Krook. Like everyone else, the Yankees do have several southpaws off of the 40-man roster who could become options eventually. The end of the LOOGY and three-batter minimum rule has taken away the need to carry more than one left-handed pitcher. However, if Peralta goes down with an injury, New York could find itself in trouble.

Cashman didn’t have to go out and add any significant piece to join Peralta on the 26-man roster. Having someone with a track record of being able to get lefties out would be beneficial even if all the guy does is give Aaron Boone a secondary option for a stretch when the team could face a lefty-heavy lineup.

To his credit, Cashman has loaded the team up with some very good big-league arms and they have some strong choices to choose from to start a game if needed. Maybe going with a lefty over Tommy Kahnle would have been the more balanced choice.
