The New Orleans Saints are reportedly close to signing Derek Carr to a contract, meaning he won’t be going to the New York Jets.
The Jets are a disaster waiting to happen at all times.
While New York remains the favorite to land Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers should he choose to play another year, it’ll cost them at least one first-round pick. Should Rodgers retire, it’s officially a doomsday scenario for New York, which hired failed Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator in part (seemingly) to attract Rodgers to the big apple.
Green Bay could hold out now and demand a higher asking price, especially with the limited QB options available in free agency. If New York fails to land a QB at all, they’ll be stuck with Zach Wilson or Mike White, neither of which led to a playoff berth last season.
Derek Carr didn’t want to wait on the New York Jets
The Jets were and remain enticed by Aaron Rodgers. It’s tough to blame them, as he’s just one year removed from winning his second straight NFL MVP. But does this not feel a little familiar?
Brett Favre was traded from Green Bay to New York in 2008. He started one season with the Jets prior to joining the Minnesota Vikings for the final two years of his career.
It’s a major if, but should Rodgers decide he wants to retire, or somehow not end up with the New York Jets, it would be a rather monumental failure by the front office to let a quarterback like Carr leave the building in the first place.
The Jets made the decision to wait on signing Derek Carr in order to see about Aaron Rodgers.

Carr was done waiting, signed with the Saints instead.
If the Jets don't get Rodgers and lost Carr because they waited around...
The Saints made it clear Derek Carr was their No. 1 target.

The Jets are a QB away from being a really good team and they missed out on Derek Carr.

That Aaron Rodgers price is skyrocketing.
Derek Carr to the Saints

And suddenly, the Jets, who’ve been playing the Carr card as if they felt they were in the drivers seat from the jump, now find themselves teetering on a VERY real, dangerous possibility of ending up without the top tier, veteran QB they’re looking for
