Aaron Jones pushes back on Jordan Love campaigning
By Kristen Wong
Packers’ Aaron Jones isn’t ready to start the Jordan Love era just yet and jumped back into Aaron Rodgers’ boat following rumors of Rodgers’ trade.
From one Aaron to the other, the Green Bay Packers have a decent amount of talent on their hands heading into the 2023 season. Running back Aaron Jones recently signed a team-friendly contract this offseason and, like everyone else, has kept one eye on the slowly developing Aaron Rodgers situation.
Rodgers, the next towering quarterback domino awaiting to fall, has yet to make a decision on his future and continues to leave the Packers franchise hanging in the dark.
The longtime Green Bay quarterback has turned into one of the most intriguing narratives of the offseason ever since his team lost to the Detroit Lions in the regular season finale, and Rodgers chose to hold onto his jersey rather than swap with a Lions player.
Where is Rodgers’ head at? That’s the million-dollar question everyone would like to know. It seems like we don’t even have Pat McAfee to turn to in this dark hour.
Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr finalized a deal with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, signaling a fresh start for the veteran Pro Bowler and perhaps pushing Rodgers to make his own decision in the coming weeks.
Rodgers’ hottest trade destination at the moment seems to be the New York Jets, especially since the Jets reportedly waited on Rodgers these past few months and considered Carr to be their Plan B.
A player of Rodgers’ caliber is worth waiting for, a sentiment that Aaron Jones also shared on Pro Football Talk:
"“I definitely keep seeing that everywhere the Jets want [Rodgers], but as of right now, he’s in Green Bay if he comes back and plays. I don’t want him going anywhere. You guys can have one of those veteran quarterbacks. Jimmy G, he’s a winner and they can win with him. I like Jimmy G.”"
Aaron Jones changes alliances in Green Bay, is Team Aaron Rodgers all the way
It’s hilarious how many players are getting dissed when high-profile names get signed or rumored to join certain teams. When Carr joined the Saints, wideout Michael Thomas was quick to celebrate, accidentally (on purpose?) throwing shade at currently rostered quarterback Jameis Winston in the process.
This time, oft-trod-upon 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo gets the “move aside” treatment, ranking as one of the more desirable backup options out there who’s nonetheless clearly a tier below Rodgers.
Rodgers, after all, is hardly a backup. The future Hall-of-Famer would turn most teams into immediate contenders, and the Jets appear willing to risk it all for a Rodgers trade — if Rodgers actually wants out of Green Bay.
Entering his 19th year with the franchise, Rodgers may want to run it back with his teammates or, after the way the 2022 season played out, contend for a Super Bowl elsewhere.
Rodgers’ expected successor, Jordan Love, has received the backing of the Packers franchise and a few players as Rodgers takes his sweet time to deliberate his future. Green Bay was likely feeling a little slighted by Rodgers early in the offseason and wanted to be the ones to fire first in this passive-aggressive Wild NFC North showdown.
If Rodgers does decide to return for one more year in Green Bay, the Packers may still welcome their prickly and short-tempered son back with open arms.
