Justin Turner reached out to Red Sox Nation via social media to show his gratitude for their support after a scary injury.
It’s something you never want to see on a baseball diamond, especially at this time of year when the games don’t even count. But it appears all is well with Boston Red Sox third baseman Justin Turner after taking a pitch off his head during a Grapefruit League game on Monday.
Turner was taken to the hospital after suffering a scary injury in the bottom of the first inning during an exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers. The 2-1 pitch from the Detroit pitcher went up and in and struck Turner in the face.

After hitting the ground with his face a crimson mess, Justin Turner was able to walk off the field under his own power. Out of an abundance of caution, the Boston Red Sox slugger was taken to a local hospital for further tests.
But, Turner took to Twitter on Tuesday to reassure Red Sox fans that he was doing okay and he’d be back on the field as soon as possible. He also took a moment to thank all the Boston faithful for their prayers and messages.
According to Turner, he suffered no broken bones and all his teeth are intact. This is all fantastic news and it sounds as if Turner is in good spirits and in good hands with the medical folks at Lee Health.
Justin Turner signed with the Boston Red Sox this offseason after quite a career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Turner is expected to man the corner infield spots on occasion and also be the team’s primary designated hitter now that J.D. Martinez is off in Los Angeles.
No timetable has given as of yet for Turner’s return to the Red Sox lineup.
