The Boston Red Sox have some players that could be on the move this season

The Boston Red Sox are hoping to turn things around. In 2022, Boston finished in last place in the AL East with a 78-84 record.

The problem for them could be that, arguably, each of the teams ahead of them got better this offseason. The Yankees added one of the best free agent starters (Carlos Rodón) to their rotation and kept Aaron Judge. The Orioles have some of the sport’s top prospects in Triple-A or ready to play a full season in the majors. They also added to their rotation with Kyle Gibson and Cole Irvin. The Rays added Zach Eflin to their rotation. The Blue Jays added Daulton Varsho, Brandon Belt, and Kevin Kiermaier offensively and Chris Bassitt to their rotation.

The Red Sox made some moves themselves by adding Justin Turner as their DH, Masataka Yoshida and Adam Duvall in the outfield, Corey Kluber to their rotation, and Kenley Jansen (among others) in their bullpen.

Will those players be able to put the Red Sox in contention? Of course, only time will tell. However, if things go south early, the Red Sox could look to trade some players in the first half of the season.

Here are some players that Boston may trade this season.

Boston Red Sox rumors: 5 players that may be on the trade block

1) Red Sox center fielder Adam Duvall

The Red Sox just signed outfielder Adam Duvall this offseason but he may not be with Boston for long.

After leading the National League in RBI in 2021 with 113, Duvall was injured for much of 2022. In 86 games with the Braves, Duvall only hit .213/.276/.401 with 12 home runs, 36 RBI, and an OPS+ of 87.

He may not be with the team too long because he, essentially, is a stop-gap for them. The Red Sox only signed the 34-year-old to a one-year deal and one of their top prospects will be in center field for them in Triple-A. Ceddanne Rafaela (Red Sox No. 3 prospect and MLB.com’s No. 86 overall prospect) finished the 2022 season in Double-A. In 71 games there, he hit .274 with a .824 OPS.
