NFL mock draft 2023: Packers 7-round post-Combine projection with an Aaron Rodgers trade
Packers replenish TE room with Combine standout Zack Kuntz
Speaking of Combine standouts, Zack Kuntz is definitely up there. The Old Dominion star tore it up with the tight end group, posting a 4.55-second 40-yard dash and a 40-inch vertical. The kid is a freak and has some nice film against lower-level competition that will make him coveted early on Day 3.
He’s a great fit for Green Bay, though, as the tight end room is about to get ravaged. Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis are both free agents while Josiah Deguara hasn’t totally panned out. As the team continues to look to give Jordan Love every chance to succeed, landing an uber-athletic tight end like this would make a ton of sense to bolster the offensive arsenal.
Moro Ojomo could be a hidden gem for the Packers in the fifth round
Both Jarran Reed and Dean Lowry, who started most of the year at defensive end in 2022, are set to hit free agency. 2022 first-rounder Devonte Wyatt figures to take up one of those spots, but things are less decided at the other end. While the Packers will look to address it in free agency most likely, taking a swing on a tweener like Moro Ojomo makes a lot of sense as part of the plan.
Ojomo is only 281 pounds, which is why he’s going to fall a bit in the draft, especially when he didn’t test off the charts like Calijah Kancey did as an undersized interior lineman. With that being said, he was a highly effective and polished pass-rusher as a lineman for the Longhorns and could give the front another boost as a role player and depth addition.
Green Bay gets nice CB depth with a sneaky good fit in Jakorian Bennett
If we’re being honest, I might not have been taking Jakorian Bennett in the fifth round of this 2023 NFL mock draft prior to the Combine. But after he ran a 4.3-second 40 and jumped 40 inches in the vert, I’m willing to take a gamble.
There were flashed in coverage from Bennett in his time at Maryland but he was far too inconsistent in coverage with technique and fluidity. Clearly, though, he has so many physical tools in the arsenal that it would be negligence to not add depth in the secondary with a player that has the upside the former Terp does.
