NFL mock draft 2023: Chiefs 7-round post-Combine projection replaces Brown, Clark
Derick Hall could be a perfect Chiefs replacement for Frank Clark
It seemed as if Kansas City started to brace for the loss of Frank Clark last offseason when they used a high-end draft pick on George Karlaftis. He performed well as a rookie but, with Clark and potentially Carlos Dunlap both gone, the edge room really needs to be replenished moving forward. And it’s hard not to like what we’ve seen on film from Derick Hall.
Though he’s not a true defensive end in terms of his build at 6-foot-3, 254 pounds, Hall played much bigger than his size while at Auburn. He’s an explosive power rusher with the ability to convert speed to power and simply mow through opposing offensive linemen.
He’s not a polished overall pass rusher in terms of the moves and counters he’s able to string together to win. Moreover, he still needs some work against the run. That being said, he’s a strong overall player who has a mold as a pass-rusher that has traditionally translated to success with his ability to generate burst and power to win.
Hall might not be the only defensive end that the team could add this offseason in free agency or even elsewhere in the draft, but he’s the right type of player to bank a Day 2 pick on that he can contribute in a meaningful way during his rookie campaign.
