The eighth season of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) is coming to a close, let’s hand out some awards.

As the eighth season of the PHF winds down and the chase for the Isobel Cup inches closer, it’s time to reflect on what has been an incredible season for women’s hockey.

The Montreal Force joined the league as an expansion team and are 8-13-1 to this point. While this is nowhere near playoff contention, they have performed well enough to stay out of last place in the standings, an impressive feat.

Only the Toronto Six (16-4-2) and Boston Pride (16-3-1) are locked into the playoffs as of right now, with the Connecticut Whale (10-8-2) and Minnesota Whitecaps (10-8-2) seemingly next in line.

Let’s hand out some regular season awards to the best women’s hockey players in the world.

PHF Awards: MVP Pick

It’s hard to go with anyone else other than Loren Gabel. Gabel, a forward for the Boston Pride, has dominated the game in every way this season.

She easily leads the PHF in total points with 35 (19 goals and 16 assists) and has a comfortable lead in all of these categories over the second-best scorers. She has been an integral part of this team that is looking to win its second consecutive Isobel Cup Championship.

PHF Awards: Goaltender of the Year Pick

Stick in Boston, Corinne Schroeder has emerged as the best goaltender around this season. If you thought Gabel had a comfortable lead in offensive categories, wait until you see Schroeder’s.

Her Goals Against Average (GAA) sits at 1.57, an alarmingly strong rate. Amanda Leveille of the Connecticut Whale is second and hers is 2.41. Not even close.

For Save Percentage, Schroeder is at .958 while Leveille is at .920. Schroeder’s 16 wins on the season also lead the league and while Leveille has done enough to put her name into the conversation, there’s just no way to bet against the 23-year-old Pride goalie.
