2. Compete like hell and prove to everyone you’re not a private school rich kid

This may run counterintuitive to the teacher’s pet angle, but once again, hear me out. Manning got a massive boost in the recruiting department based on his last name. It wasn’t his choice to be part of America’s first family of quarterbacking, but here we are. Although Isidore Newman is an excellent private school in New Orleans, Manning will win over his teammates by showing grit.

Not to say he needs to be reckless abandon with his body out there, but a few extra bumps and bruises won’t hurt his case to be QB1. He, and Ewers, must understand that this job is not going to be handed to either of them. They must battle their tails off. Otherwise, Texas will never be back. It is why Manning needs to play with the fire of Uncle Peyton, as opposed to the chill of his Uncle Eli.

The reason why competing like hell will serve Manning here in the end is Texas is joining the SEC in 2024. That would be Manning’s true sophomore season. Texas may not ever win the Big 12 again, but the Longhorns can’t just waltz into the SEC all namby-pamby like and think they own the place because they absolutely don’t. That Coastal coach needed more dogs, so he best go be a dog then.

If Manning can come out of Spring Practice with a bit of an edge to him, that may really help Texas.
