Which Big 12 teams made the NCAA Tournament?
The Big 12 Conference is a basketball gauntlet. Five teams were ranked in the top-25 in the latest AP Poll (Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Kansas State, TCU). Overall, the conference had only one team finish under .500; Oklahoma barely missed the mark at 16-17.
Next season, the Big 12 will get even tougher with the addition of #1 Houston. The Cougars have made it to the Sweet Sixteen in back-to-back seasons.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at what Big 12 teams made the NCAA Tournament.
Seven Big 12 teams made the NCAA Tournament
- Kansas Jayhawks (At-large) – No. 1 seed in West Region
- Texas Longhorns (Automatic) – No. 2 seed in Midwest Region
- Baylor Bears (At-large) – No. 3 seed in South Region
- Kansas State Wildcats (At-large) – No. 3 seed in East Region
- TCU Horned Frogs (At-large) – No. 6 seed in West Region
- Iowa State Cyclones (At-large) – No. 6 seed in Midwest Region
- West Virginia Mountaineers (At-large) – No. 9 seed in South Region
Texas earned an automatic bid with a 76-56 upset victory over Kansas in the Big 12 Championship. Senior Dylan Disu led the way with 18 points and six rebounds, while senior guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice each chipped in 17 points.
Kansas, Baylor, Kansas State, and TCU were all projected to be locks to make the tournament. So, their at-large bids come as no surprise.
Iowa State and West Virginia were unranked. Nevertheless, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projected both teams to be in, and they were not listed on the bubble.
Oklahoma State barely missed the cut. They were listed as the first team out. They have a 18-15 overall record, and they boast victories over TCU and Iowa State. It is also worth noting that 10 of their losses came against ranked opponents.
Texas Tech and Oklahoma are the other teams on the outside looking in.
