2. Biggest March Madness Snubs – Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Big 12’s brutality was bound to swallow up one bubble team and Oklahoma State was the unfortunate victim. The knife was twisted a bit further for the Cowboys when the Selection Show revealed they were the first team out of the field, losing the last at-large bid to Nevada.

Metrics have always been kind to Oklahoma State, which posted a solid 43 NET and was KenPom’s 38th-best team. The Cowboys also played a tremendous schedule that ranked eighth in the country with a ridiculous 18 Quad 1 games to boot.

Unfortunately for Mike Boynton’s team, the Cowboys won just six of those Quad 1 opportunities, a factor that Reynolds mentioned as the reason Oklahoma State missed the field. Playing a ton of good games is always great but you have to find a way to win some of those games as well.

The end result was an 18-15 record that simply featured too many losses to permit inclusion into the field. Oklahoma State will have to hope that they can use the momentum from this season to build a better team next season.
