Could Caleb Love leave the UNC Tar Heels? Love was instrumental in the team’s championship run last season. A year later, he could be out the door.
The UNC Tar Heels became the first preseason AP No. 1-ranked team to miss out on the NCAA Tournament. It’s the sacrifice they made to defeat Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski in not only his final home game in Durham, but his final NCAA Tournament game as well.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
That same team — with Love, Armando Bacot and all — could not make a late-season run to save its 2022-23 season. Now, Love could be on his way out, if his social media activity is any sign.
Caleb Love deleted all North Carolina Tar Heels info from his Instagram, and altered his bio to “you can’t break me.” Could that be a sign that a transfer portal decision is looming?
UNC Tar Heels: What to make of Caleb Love?
Caleb Love struggled from long distance this season, and his shot selection was poor. He shot the most three-pointers of anyone on the Tar Heels team, and had close to the lowest percentage of makes. Nonetheless, Hubert Davis continued to encourage Love to shoot, even when he perhaps should have held back some. Situational awareness is everything in basketball, and Love must learn that before he takes the next step — wherever that may be.
Bleacher Report projects Love to leave UNC, but not head to the NBA just yet:
"“Caleb Love would probably benefit from another year in college, but our early prediction is Love will not return to Chapel Hill and declare for the draft. If that all happens, Carolina will be replacing four starters next season. Plus, while we won’t project any individual to transfer, the possibility of a portal departure is also worth noting.”"
Next year’s North Carolina team should look much different — and that’s likely for the best.
