2. NY Mets RHP Zach Greene wasn’t worth the Rule-5 Draft selection

Zach Greene was selected by the Mets from the Yankees in the Rule-5 Draft. He had as good of a shot as anybody at making the team based on his Rule-5 status, but he was among the first group of Mets players cut from MLB Spring Training.

Greene has been placed on waivers and is being offered back to the Yankees after a horrific start to his spring.

The right-hander appeared in five games for the Mets in the spring which has him tied for the team lead. In those appearances, he allowed seven runs on six hits with six walks in just 4.2 innings pitched. He did strike out five, but showed awful command and proved he was not ready to be a piece of this Mets bullpen.

Greene had the upper hand over other relievers fighting for roster spots because of his Rule-5 status, yet he was cut with another two and a half weeks to go before Opening Day.

It’s unfortunate because Greene did show he has some really good stuff, but his lack of command really cost him. More walks than innings pitched will never work. I’m sure he’ll get a job somewhere, it just didn’t work here.
