NFL rumors: Packers finally get some news that doesn’t involve Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers fans have been awaiting some news — any news, really — that doesn’t involve quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 

Aaron Rodgers has taken NFL free agency hostage, for the most part anyway. The Packers are here to break that streak, as they’d rather not wait around for their soon-to-be former franchise quarterback to make a move.

Green Bay is bringing back return man Keisean Nixon, who was an NFL All-Pro last season.

While that received a bit of a tease from Ian Rapoport, it should not be understated how important such a move is for the Packers special teams unit. The return game wasn’t Green Bay’s strength for much of the last decade. To finally have some semblance of an attack at play is a welcomed change.

Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated expected Nixon to have a strong market, but Green Bay acted early on during the legal tampering period to ensure that he stayed in Packers colors, at least for next season.

"“Nixon hadn’t returned kicks since junior college but earned first-team All-Pro honors with a 28.8-yard average on kickoff returns. His five returns of 50-plus yards led the NFL. The barrage of big plays included a 93-yarder vs. Miami in Week 16 and a 105-yard touchdown vs. Minnesota in Week 17. On punt returns, he rarely fielded the ball on the fly but still averaged a robust 12.7 yards per runback,” Huber wrote."

Huber also reported that Green Bay intends of bringing back safety Adrian Amos to play alongside Jaire Alexander for another season.

Green Bay has 14 unrestricted free agents and three restricted free agents heading into this cycle, so they still have plenty of work to do. Despite Rodgers indecisiveness, Brian Gutekunst and the entire front office are moving forward.
