3 moves the Patriots have to avoid this offseason

1. Letting go at offensive tackle
The biggest mistake the Patriots could make this offseason is failing to make a move at the tackle position.
As it stands, the Patriots were arguably the worst at the position in 2022, which makes it challenging for a quarterback who remains in the pocket.
On Patriots.com, Lazar offered two stats that demonstrate just how abysmal the Patriots were at tackle last season. “Pats OTs had a blown block rate on all plays this season of 3.4 percent, which was the tenth-highest in the NFL,” he wrote. “Plus, the position group was called for 27 penalties, with starting left tackle Trent Brown’s 13 flags ranking tied for second-most among all OLs.”
Brown’s second stint in New England is likely headed for the end, as releasing him would also release $11 million in cap space. Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon are free agents, and while the Patriots could re-sign them, it’s more likely that this will be their primary focus in the draft instead.
With all that they need to address, they won’t be able to compete for Orlando Brown, and Mike McGlinchey is now off the market after signing with the Denver Broncos. Despite all their other needs, this is the one position the Patriots will have to act on quickly if they want to see the playoffs in 2023.
