Cowboys rumors: Sign D’Onta Foreman to replace Ezekiel Elliott
Foreman is an affordable option in free agency if the Cowboys would rather use the NFL Draft to strengthen other positions. Foreman stepped in for the Carolina Panthers last year once they traded away Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers.
In that time, Foreman rushed for just over 900 yards on over four yards per carry. That’s an improvement over the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, and Foreman can serve as a bruiser between the tackles. Now, how much would a player like this cost?
Foreman, who went to school in Texas, is projected to make over $3 million next season on a one-year contract, per Spotrac. The Carolina Panthers have already made an offer, so the Cowboys would have to ask fast and drive up the price a bit.
A $3 million deal is affordable compared to Elliott, who was schedule to come with a $16 million cap hit. For basically a fifth of the cost, Dallas can get a better player, and one with ties to the area as well. Adding Foreman doesn’t prevent the Cowboys from adding another young running back in the draft, either. Foreman would come on a short-term deal, while a rookie running back would be tied to the organization for years to come.
Foreman comes with an immediate payoff and would be a great compliment to Pollard between the tackles. He’s exactly what the Cowboys need at the far cheaper cost, should they choose to act on it.
