Creighton has become an NCAA Tournament fixture of the past decade, sending several players to the NBA. But for some basketball fans, the university is still a complete unknown.

After a 21-12 season and a third-place finish in the Big East, Creighton made the NCAA Tournament this season as a No. 6 seed. They’ll face No. 11 seed NC State Friday at 4:00 p.m. FiveThirtyEight’s projection model gives them a 79 percent chance of advancing out of the first round and an 11 percent chance of advancing out of the South Region to make the Final Four.

Creighton has been in the tournament more often than not over the past few years, with several alumni carving out lengthy NBA careers. But while people may be familiar with the basketball program they might not know a ton about the actual university, including where it actually is.

Where is Creighton University located?

Creighton University is in Omaha, Nebraska. The college was founded in 1878 as a private Jesuit college and had roughly 9,000 students as of 2015. The name comes from Mary Lucretia Creighton who gifted the money for the college’s founding in her will, establishing the college in honor of her late husband Edward Creighton.
