Farleigh Dickinson (FDU) joined an elusive group by becoming the second No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed in an NCAA Tournament. The Twitter world had a field day.
Virginia can now rest easy. Purdue, thanks to Farleigh Dickinson University, or FDU, now joins a club that no one wanted to form or be part of in the first place.
A 63-58 win over the Boilermakers sends the Knights from New Jersey on a path to the next round and validated their coach’s proclamation following their win over Texas Southern.
As fate would have it, Twitter was already prepared and unleashed a fury of jokes on Matt Painter’s team that could not find its groove against FDU.

Everyone in the sports world made fun of FDU's coach for saying they could best Purdue... guy doesn't look so dumb now does he?

Can't say Painter is the best coach in the country with consecutive tournament losses to North Texas, St. Peter's, and FDU... This is incredibly embarrassing. The worst part is that it is so predictable #Purdue #boilers #NCAATournament #boilermakers

Twitter reacts to Purdue’s upset loss to Farleigh Dickinson in the NCAA Tournament.
Despite his best efforts, Purdue superstar Zach Edey could not carry his team to victory all by himself. Edey had 21 points, but FDU was more balanced in their attack as Sean Moore’s 19 points, along with Demetre Roberts (12) and Camero Tatum (10), was enough to secure the upset. While a late review had fans on the edge of their seats, hoping that officials don’t interfere with a great game, it ended up the way it did.
Somewhere back in New Jersey, there’s a party in the FDU Kingdom, and there should be. This is, again, only the second time a No. 1 seed has lost to a No. 16 seed. UMBC did it to UVA, and now FDU to Purdue. Purdue lost to Saint Peter’s last year as well, which is also a New Jersey school. Maybe they should avoid that state on the biggest stage.
March is in full madness. Furman took out UVA, Princeton bid farewell to Arizona, and now FDU has eliminated Purdue. Who will be the next to deliver a major upset and create a Cinderella run? If the glass slipper still fits, maybe FDU will be the one moving on again and continuing their fairytale. This is March, and this is not a good time to be a Purdue fan.
