The Duke Blue Devils got bounced by struggling Tennessee in the Round of 32 and college basketball fans let them have it on Twitter.
It sure seemed like everything was trending in the right direction for the Duke Blue Devils in March Madness. Jon Scheyer’s first NCAA Tournament win was a blowout over a top Cinderella candidate in Oral Roberts for Duke’s tenth straight win, setting the stage for a very winnable Round of 32 game against struggling Tennessee.
Things did not go according to plan for Duke, which went ice cold from the perimeter in a 65-52 loss to the Volunteers. The Blue Devils hit just 6-of-21 three-point attempts, which allowed a low-wattage Tennessee offense to easily get past them and advance to the Sweet 16.
This is a very disappointing end for the Blue Devils, who were a sleeper Final Four pick out of the East Region and had their path to the regional final opened up considerably after 1-seed Purdue was upset by Fairleigh Dickinson last night. College basketball fans were clearly enthused about Duke’s failure and let them know it on social media.

Tennessee, which lost PG Zakai Ziegler to in injury, was considered one of the most vulnerable high seeds, and with good reason.
Latest lesson that these things often don't correlate.

There are significant questions about what Duke will look like next season as Scheyer will undoubtedly lose a few of his fabulous freshmen to the pro ranks. Either way, a game like this was a wasted opportunity that the Blue Devils will lament for the next few months.
Tennessee is on to the Sweet 16 and will await the winner of the Fairleigh Dickinson-Florida Atlantic matchup tomorrow. That regional will take place at Madison Square Garden.
