NFL Rumors: Saints host free agent TE Foster Moreau for a visit

Derek Carr is no Aaron Rodgers. He won’t get the complete red carpet treatment from the New Orleans Saints, but he could get an old friend in Foster Moreau.

Carr is the Saints’ best option under center since Drew Brees, and signing him to a long-term deal means the Saints can finally get off the dizzying quarterback carousel ride. The New York Jets got into Rodgers’ good graces by going after some of his desired targets, and it looks like New Orleans is trying a similar thing.

On Saturday, the Saints hosted former Las Vegas Raiders tight end Foster Moreau for a visit, potentially adding an intriguing piece to their receiving corps.

During his time on the Raiders, Carr generated scintillating chemistry with his tight ends, Jared Cook and Darren Waller. Moreau typically played second fiddle to Waller in Las Vegas but saw more playing time in 2022 due to Waller’s injury; he finished with a career-high 33 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns.

Reuniting Carr with Moreau in New Orleans could be a sneakily wise move by the Saints to get some much-needed production from their tight ends. Ever since Jared Cook left NOLA, Adam Trautman hasn’t lived up to his potential, and Juwan Johnson could still use some development.

A 2023 tight end unit of Trautman, Johnson, Moreau, and (technically) Taysom Hill may seem like overkill, yet each player brings his own set of strengths to the table.

If the Jets are willing to get Marcedes Lewis for Rodgers, the Saints should be more than willing to get Moreau for Carr.
