Ezekiel Elliott’s role in the Cowboys offense can be filled by Tank Bigsby

On one hand, the Dallas Cowboys aren’t going to miss Ezekiel Elliott in any on-field capacity given how much of a shell he was of the player that was drafted in the first round back in 2016. He was not the same player, even if he was fighting through injuries, and the choice to retain Tony Pollard and ultimately cutting Zeke was an easy one to make.

At the same time, though, Dallas needs a complement to Pollard in the backfield that Malik Davis may not be able to provide. For as talented and explosive as we know that Pollard can be as a runner and pass-catcher, the truth of the matter is that he’s not a power between-the-tackles type runner and could be better still splitting time in those situations.

That’s where someone like Tank Bigsby would make a ton of sense.

Yes, I’m sure you’re thankful this isn’t an NFL mock draft with Dallas taking Bijan Robinson in the first round, but that’s just smart business. This is a deep class of running backs and Bigsby is part of that. The 6-foot, 213-pounder is a force as a runner but with good vision.

Bigsby was highly productive throughout his Auburn career. While he’s not a burner, he’s tremendous at getting the tough yards, notably gaining 740 yards after contact in the 2022 season for the Tigers. That’s the type of player needed to be the 2 in the 1-2 punch with Pollard in the Cowboys backfield.
