3 reasons Vikings should abandon Kirk Cousins for Lamar Jackson

2. Kirk Cousins can only take the Vikings (or anyone) so far
Make no mistake about it, Kirk Cousins has proven himself to be a good quarterback in the NFL. During his time in Minnesota, he has made it to the Pro Bowl in three-of-five years. But in terms of playoff success, the Vikings haven’t experienced it much with Cousins.
Back in 2019, Cousins did lead the Vikings to an upset victory over the New Orleans Saints in overtime in the Wild Card Round. But then, in the Divisional Round, Cousins and the Vikings were outmatched by the San Francisco 49ers, losing 27-10. This past season, Cousins did have to make up for a defense that allowed Giants quarterback Daniel Jones a historic outing. But on the final drive, in need of eight yards for a first down, Cousins threw a three-yard pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson, officially giving Minnesota the 31-24 loss.
Yes, Jackson didn’t make it past the Divisional Round, but he will be entering the NFC, which has a much easier path to the Super Bowl than the AFC.
Whenever a new regime takes over an NFL organization, they typically want to bring in their preferred quarterback. Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell didn’t bring Cousins to Minnesota. Considering he has one more year remaining on his contract, could they decide to make a big move to bring in a legitimate superstar at quarterback?
