NFL Rumors: Packers brass is acting suspicious about the Aaron Rodgers situation

Something’s up in Green Bay.

Packers president Mark Murphy spoke to reporters on Monday and said a very fishy thing about the whole Aaron Rodgers situation:

"“I would love to tell you everything you want to know about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets but I’m sworn to secrecy not to say anything.”"

Anytime anyone says they have a secret, it’s everyone’s gut reaction to say, “What is it?”

So, what is it?

Is it that the Rodgers trade isn’t happening after all? That he’s retiring? That all of this was Rodgers’ elaborate attempt to get attention and he’s just been dangling his carrot above the league like a cackling psychopath?

Ever since Rodgers announced his intention to play for the Jets, the Packers and the Jets have presumably been having talks behind closed doors about a fair trade package.

It’s possible Murphy is simply not allowed to talk about the details of the proposed packages so far, or about what the Packers are looking for. Earlier in the offseason, Murphy did make it seem like the franchise wanted to move on from Rodgers and that he wanted to find a “win-win situation” for the veteran quarterback and the franchise.

If there’s not some big secret in Green Bay, Murphy should have chosen his words more carefully. Being “sworn to secrecy” sounds awfully dire at this stage in the unresolved negotiation talks, the equivalent of two kids spitting into their hands, shaking, and making an unbreakable pact. Very serious indeed.
