WGC-Dell Match Play bracket predictions – Semifinals

Collin Morikawa defeats Kevin Kisner

Even Kisner would admit that one of his biggest weapons is that he’s so much shorter than most players, which allows him to put pressure on with his approach shots. While Morikawa is longer off the tee, he’s just a superior iron player who is battle-tested under pressure as well. Morikawa is going to keep on firing at pins with great success and this is where the suspect form of Kisner overall will come back to get him.

Rory McIlroy defeats Jon Rahm

Someone fan me off. This match would be everything.

Rory and Rahm are two of the best three players in the world right now along with Scheffler and now they’re head-to-head with a spot in the finals on the line. This is going to be like a movie version of a boxing match with one haymaker being matched by another haymaker. At the end of the day, though, I have McIlroy emerging as the more seasoned and successful match play players. But if this one required extra holes, I wouldn’t be surprised.

WGC-Dell Match Play bracket predictions – Third-Place Match

Jon Rahm defeats Kevin Kisner

There is definitely a chance that Rahm could check out for a third-place match if he loses to Rory in the semis — I’m well aware of the risk in that. However, this is again about form. It just feels like Rahm is playing such substantially better golf than Kisner right now that, even if he’s not all the way locked in or in form, he can still come out on top to take third place.

WGC-Dell Match Play bracket predictions – Final

Collin Morikawa defeats Rory McIlroy

In case you haven’t figured this out, Collin Morikawa is my pick to win this week and I think he can even slay Rory along the way. His approach play is so strong right now and the amount of heat that puts on opponent — especially when he’s going to be hitting first in the fairway often against someone like McIlroy — is hard to contend with. I think it causes problems for Rory and, ultimately, gives Morikawa another big win for his resumé.
