Jordan Spieth pulled out magic with his short game to beat Mackenzie Hughes in his opening match of the WGC-Dell Match Play and his reaction was iconic.

Fresh off coming up short at the Valspar Championship last week, Jordan Spieth was back on the course a day earlier than normal as he teed it up in his opening-round match of the WGC-Dell Match Play against Canadian Mackenzie Hughes.

Spieth truthfully dominated the day against Hughes for most of the day. He went 1 Up on the fourth hole and only lost one hole throughout the day. Coming into the 15th hole, he as 4 Up on his opponent but gave Hughes some life to at least halve the match when his approach went into the left rough, some 29 yards away from the hole.

As Spieth has done many, many times in his career, though, he dipped into his bag of tricks around the green and holed-out with a ridiculous pitch shot for the birdie and to clinch the win in the match, 4&3.

Jordan Spieth holes out for win at WGC-Dell Match Play, has NSFW reaction and apology

While the shot in itself was pure absurdity and simultaneously exactly the type of thing that Jordan Spieth does, it was his post-round interview at the Match Play event that really hit fans in the funny bone.

Being interviewed greenside by NBC, Spieth said, “I told [Hughes], that was kind of some bulls**t, so I kind of apologized there for the way that it ended.”

Imagine losing a match to Jordan Spieth on that shot — one that he might be the singular person capable of pulling off immediately after such a bad approach — only for him to immediately tell you point-blank that it was “bulls**t”. That probably wouldn’t make many golfers feel much better.

We’ll have to see if Spieth has any more BS left in the tank this week in Austin but, if one thing’s for sure, he’s probably looking more to two weeks from now when The Masters will tee off.
