WGC-Dell Match Play group stage standings (Updated after second round)
Checking in on the WGC-Dell Match Play and the group stage standings for the tournament to see which players are in line to advance.
The action got underway a day earlier than normal on the PGA Tour with the WGC-Dell Match Play taking over Austin Country Club. And the first matches of the groups stage on Wednesday offered plenty of drama.
Right out of the gate, as we always do at this event, we got a big upset with J.J. Spaun taking down Matt Fitzpatrick. That really set the tone for some shocking results with Rickie Fowler beating Jon Rahm, Matt Kuchar topping a red-hot Viktor Hovland, Will Zalatoris losing to Andrew Putnam, and much more.
The second day of action had some big surprises too but also some bounce-backs. Fowler couldn’t follow up his opening win over Rahm and lost to Billy Horschel while Rahm did turn it around with a big win. Jordan Spieth got stunned by Taylor Montgomery and Andrew Putnam continued to look like a menace. And speaking of Hovland, he’s been eliminated with two straight losses at this event.
But this is the round-robin part of the bracket and no one is eliminated yet. However, we need to check in on the group stage standings to see where players stand to try and advance in the bracket.
