Draymond Green on Andrew Wiggins rumor-mongering: ‘Sometimes people disgust me’
By Scott Rogust
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green called out the “disgusting” rumors surrounding teammate Andrew Wiggins, who is dealing with a personal matter.
The Golden State Warriors are in the thick of the playoff race in the Western Conference as they look to repeat as NBA champions. The team has been without Andrew Wiggins, a key piece to their title win last year.
Since February, Wiggins has been away from the team due to personal reasons. This then opened the door for ugly rumors to spread regarding himself and his family.
Wiggins’ teammate, Draymond Green, addressed the rumors that spread online regarding his absence on “The Draymond Green Show.” Green called the rumors “disgusting” and that what Wiggins is dealing with has “no bearing on y’all life.”
Draymond Green calls out ‘disgusting’ Andrew Wiggins rumors
“The fact that a rumor about Andrew Wiggins, whether what y’all are saying is true or not, really like has no bearing on my life, nor does it have any bearing on y’all life,” said Green. “Like y’all are so thirsty to know what’s going on in someone’s life that that becomes the thing? Sometimes people disgusting me. You don’t know what someone is dealing with, and then you make them deal with that? What if that’s not what the person’s dealing with? Stop it. It’s disgusting.”
Wiggins has not played in a game since Feb. 13. Wiggins’ girlfriend, Mychal Johnson, addressed the rumors that have spread online regarding his absence, saying “the internet is a sick place” and that the rumors were “the farthest thing from the truth.”

The Warriors have been respectful of Wiggins’ privacy, not elaborating on why he’s been away from the team for over a month. On Wednesday, head coach Steve Kerr spoke about Wiggins absence, and said that the team supports him as he takes care of what he’s dealing with.
“Well, we love Wiggs, he’s a huge part of our team,” Kerr said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s a great player but he’s a great human being. He’s just a great teammate, I love coaching him.
“So anytime you see one of your guys struggling, dealing with something, all you can do is support that player and give them space and that’s what we’ve tried to do. But our players and our coaches, front office, we’re all thinking about Wiggs every day. If he comes back, great. If he doesn’t come back, that’s fine too.
“We just want to make sure that he’s in a good place, taking care of his family and we’ll see how it plays out.”
One anonymous player told Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic (subscription required) that “what he’s dealing with, is some real (expletive).”
This season, Wiggins is averaging 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, while posting a 47.3 field goal percentage and a 39.6 three-point percentage.
The Warriors regular-season ends on Apr. 9 in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. As Kerr mentions in his comments above, the Warriors are supportive and understanding of Wiggins during his absence, however long it may be.
