There is now a somewhat positive update regarding Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins, who got carted off with an apparent knee injury on Thursday.

The Philadelphia Phillies received a gigantic scare on Thursday during their spring training game against the Detroit Tigers. In the top of the second inning, first baseman Rhys Hoskins went to field a ground ball that bounced into left field, but as he did so, he suffered an apparent non-contract knee injury. Hoskins was checked out by EMT’s and eventually carted off the field.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed during the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcast that they have not received an official update on Hoskins, but did say that Hoskins was walking around in the clubhouse.

Phillies: Is there a glimmer of hope regarding Rhys Hoskins’ knee injury?

While this does seem like a positive update, considering he walked around after getting carted off, it is best to wait until the Phillies get the official results from Hoskins’ tests. The severity of his injury is not yet known as of this writing.

The Phillies are already going to be shorthanded heading into the 2023 season, as outfielder Bryce Harper is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Now, they await to see if Hoskins will miss any portion of the upcoming campaign.

This past regular season, Hoskins recorded a .246 batting average, a .332 on-base percentage, a .462 slugging percentage, 30 home runs, 79 RBI, 81 runs scored, and 145 hits in 156 games.

In Philadelphia’s run to the World Series, Hoskins tied Harper for most home runs on the team with six. Hoskins recorded a .159 batting average, a .205 on-base percentage, a .435 slugging percentage, 12 RBI (second-most on team), nine runs scored, and 11 hits.

We will continue to keep you updated on Hoskins’ status once additional details are provided.
