Steelers draft picks 2023: Every selection Pittsburgh has in April

Mike Tomlin’s team finished strong after a miserable start in 2022. The Pittsburgh Steelers have an opportunity to make some noise early in this year’s draft.

From a disastrous start to a promising finish, the Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs this past season despite finishing with a 9-8 record. Quarterback Kenny Pickett made strides as a rookie and the defense overcame some early issues (T.J. Watt missed most of the first half of 2022) and finished on a high note.

Head coach Mike Tomlin certainly has his critics. Likewise offensive coordinator Matt Canada. However, the Steelers are hoping to build on a 7-2 finish (after a 2-6 start).

Round 1: 17th overall

Round 2: 32nd overall

Round 2: 49th overall

Round 3: 80th overall

Round 4: 120th overall

Round 5: None

Round 6: None

Round 7: 234th overall

The team has the customary seven selections this year. However, the Steelers have three picks within the Top 50, including a pair of second-round choices. Due to the fact that the Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round selection this year, Pittsburgh will have the top choice in the second round but the 32nd overall pick.

Thanks to the deal that sent wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Chicago Bears last season, Khan has a pair of second-round picks to go along with the 17th overall pick.

Cornerback Akhello Witherspoon (from Seattle) cost the club its fifth-round pick his year. Outside linebacker Malik Reed and a seventh-round pick in 2023 were obtained from the Denver Broncos, which is why the Steelers don’t have their sixth-round selection next month.

Steelers draft needs for 2023

For the second straight offseason, the Steelers were busier than in past years when it came to obtaining veteran players. The team still has needs and they come courtesy of Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

You could arguably flip-flop No. 2 and No. 3, especially after the recent signings of Cole Holcomb (Commanders) and Elandon Roberts (Dolphins). The interior of the offensive front has newcomers Nate Herbig (Jets) and Isaac Seumalo (Eagles). Despite the addition of veteran Patrick Peterson, the defense could use some more young faces at cornerback.
